Module Four Introduction & Overview
Welcome to Module Four
In tandem with measures of central tendency and measures of dispersion, we use graphs and visuals to describe and display our data. Statistics can tell us a lot about our data, but visuals can probably communicate more , clearly, in a small amount of time than text and numbers can. Together, these techniques can tell a very interesting and compelling story of our data. Similar to the way certain central tendency measures are most appropriate for certain levels of measurement, certain data visuals are most appropriate for certain levels of measurement. To be clearer, a variable’s level of measurement sets the foundation for what statistics and visuals can be used to best describe the variable. Learning how to make visuals in SPSS and when it is appropriate to make them is the focus of this module.
Upon completion of this module, students will be able to:
- Identify differences in visual representations of quantitative data.
- Connect levels of measurement to appropriate graphs and visual representations of quantitative data.
- Build several graphs and visuals of data in SPSS.
